Can body language tell you if someone is lying?

Everybody conveys feelings through body language, even though most of us aren’t usually aware of what we are “saying.” If you’re holding the wrist of one arm with the opposite hand, for example, it’s usually a sign that you are anxious, maybe insecure. You wouldn’t want to be conscious of this kind of thing all the time because it could drive you to distraction.

Sometimes it’s useful. For instance, although body language cannot tell you for certain someone is lying, it can tell you they’re not altogether comfortable with what they’re saying. That alerts you to listen extra critically. The signs include fidgeting, scratching their head, rubbing an eye, their nose, or their neck while speaking to you.
