“The verb “cleave” is the only English word with two synonyms which are antonyms of each other: adhere and separate.

    Not true! Words like cleave, which can be their own antonyms, are called auto-antonyms, and there are many. Inflammable (which can me both ignitable and fire-proof) and sanction (allow or punish) are two more examples.

  2. I think you meant John Barrymore; Lionel Barrymore wasn’t in the movie.
